My name is Gwendolyn Byrd, my family and friends call me Gwen. I am the oldest of seven siblings and have 1 daughter and a granddaughter. I graduated Cum Laude from A&T State University in Greensboro, NC with a degree in Early Childhood Education having paid my own way. Later, I realized having a BS was not enough and went back to school for my Master of Education. I am recently retired with 41 years in education having taught elementary school (K5-5th grade), middle school (6th-9th grade), adjunct classes at Aiken Technical College and a Title One Coordinator at the Aiken County Public School District Office (Federal Programs).
I never imagined when I was a student at Aiken Graded that I would become a teacher one day and be in education for 41 years. I am so looking forward to being a part of this great school called SBC Prep. I love children and yes, it is hard work. The job is what I love to do, and I put my heart, soul, and sweat into it. My mother always told me that no job was an easy one. You put your very BEST into what you love. I love the students, getting the classroom/school ready, all the books, the technology, the teachers, the parents, and the joy it brings when I see a child succeed.
"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." Martin Luther King, Jr.
